Jackson Hole, Wyoming: Epic Outdoor Adventures Part I

Our first favorite spot on our road trip across Wyoming and South Dakota was the charming little ski town of Jackson Hole. If you’re a skiier like my fiance, then obviously visiting this town is ideal in the winter, but much like many gorgeous ski towns, don’t sleep on visiting during the warmer months!
We stayed overnight in Jackson Hole in September, which is a great month to come for several reasons: it’s not super crowded, you can roam town and go shopping and NOT freeze your butt off, plus you can dine outside on the patios while taking in the sights!
Since we only stayed in Jackson Hole for one night, we didn’t get to see everything we wanted. But while there are so many fun things to do in Jackson Hole, here’s what we got into while visiting!
Getting to Jackson Hole
Obviously since we were on a road trip heading east, we started all the way in Seattle, stayed overnight in Boise, and stopped in Jerome before getting to Jackson Hole.
If you’re not doing a road trip, I highly recommend flying straight into Jackson Hole Airport, which is just 15 minutes north of the town center in Jackson, Wyoming.
Explore & Stay In Jackson
Before exploring the town of Jackson, you’ll want to book a place a stay! We stayed the night in the beautiful Lexington Hotel, which is renovating and will become The Rockwell. On average, rooms are a little expensive here at $450 a night (but also everywhere in Jackson Hole is expensive!) But this is a great place to stay for a night or two that comes with breakfast, a pool and hot tub, and fresh chocolate chip cookies with complimentary beverages every afternoon!
Things to Do in town
Jackson Hole is great for shopping if you’re willing to shove out a few bucks (well more than a few, again, it’s a pretty expensive place). We enjoyed looking around Sitka Fur Gallery, which has high-end fur coats and hats. Another fan favorite is Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, where the bartop stools are actually horse saddles!
Our favorite place to eat hands down was Snake River Grill! It has an adorable outdoor patio and rooftop, where we dined since the weather was great. All of their food was AMAZING. We tried the The SRG Steak Tartare Pizza to start, some kind of lamb lollipops (which I’m not sure they have on their menu anymore which is so unfortunate), and the Braised Lamb Fazzoletti Pasta.
Since Million Dollar Cowboy Bar was too crowded to actually have a drink (it is by far the most popular place in town), we stopped at Roadhouse Brewing Co. for a beer flight. This was another popular watering hole but comfortably crowded rather than overwhelming!
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort
About 20 minutes north of town is Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, which is still a must-see in warmer months! We rode the tram all the way to the top, about 4,139 vertical feet. At the top, they let people out to walk around and check out the incredible view of Jackson Hole valley and the surrounding mountain ranges. It was also pretty cool to watch people paraglide off the mountain!
There are plenty of opportunities to go hiking here, although we didn’t have time. For those seeking a less physical outdoor activity, you can ride horses from Teton Village Trail Rides!
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is also home to the beautiful Four Seasons Resort and other great places for those with a bigger budget. In case you’re not familiar with the Four Seasons, a night here will cost you a whopping $1,000. The Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa is another more affordable luxury option with relaxing spa treatments. One night here goes for about $650 at the lowest (but it looks so worth it!)
Next Stop: Grand Teton National Park
Once you’ve seen all there is to explore of Jackson Hole, it’s time to head to the next stop on our road which is Grand Teton National Park. From Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, this national park is just a 54 minute drive away!
